Originally known as Van Atta Woods Park, it was renamed to honor Environmental Commissioner, Park Commissioner, and renowned bird expert Ted Black. This beautiful 74-acre woodlot features a lush sampling of spring wildflowers, beautiful hardwoods, and even a large diversity of songbirds! The woods have been allowed to grow without extensive interference and you will be able to enjoy its natural beauty on any of the many trails. These trails range in difficulty, allowing a pleasant experience for visitors of all levels of hiking ability. Do take note that as the trail edges upon several wetlands, mosquitoes may be a problem so prepare insect repellent before visiting!
Legg Park is huge, spanning across 103 acres with many different trail offerings for both amateurs and experienced hikers. It is a loop trail that will take around one and a half hours to complete, with variations for people who wish to do more or less distance. As it is part of the Meridian Riverfront Park, there are also options to cross over to the Harris Nature Center via the red park trail. The activities that you can do here are not limited to just running and hiking, the trails are also open to horseback riding, snowshoeing, biking, and even cross-country skiing.
